This is especially useful for camera sensor chips that have no UV protective AR glass and are sensitive to UV and IR light. The filter is used for luminance imaging and for Moon and Planet images. Infrared or IR light is invisible to the human eye, and so even though most telescopes are not designed to focus IR light, it does not matter
