一般而言，扒花是刻画单一的连续纹饰：最常见的是卷草纹，金钱纹，锦地纹等。扒花的花，指的就是这个。如果要刻画不连续的画面，比如在锦地纹中夹以龙纹凤纹乃到花鸟鱼虫，难度就更大得多。还有一种，难度上介于前两者之间，就是在连续的扒花纹饰基础上，施以粉彩的彩绘。举凡粉彩能画的，理论上都可以。而粉彩做画，几乎无所不能。当然，这是以扒花做为装饰的主要手段，是主角，有时候，扒花也可以做配角，做配角时，他的戏路就更宽了，青花也好，粉彩也好，来者不拒，应对自如。 如果要追究这种装饰手法的历史，或许是传统陶瓷刻花工艺的一种延伸和极致的表现，也是皇室审美的特殊要求。这种装饰手法，在单一的色釉上，远看并不显著；近赏方能细细品玩。体现出一种含续的意韵。貌似不起眼的一个单色釉小件，细审之下，却发现非同寻常的工艺之难，技艺之巧，令人陡生赞叹！
